25th Evacuation Hospital WW2
A few highlights which helped me learn about features within this project, RMH:
Med-dept.com WW2 US Medical Research Centre Ben Major has an extensive base of information on medical facilities, features, and groups of WW2.
Pacificwarmuseum.org National Museum of the Pacific War John Parshall has a great video of the situation of the South Pacific leading up to the time of arrival of the 25th E.H. at Espiritu Santo New Hebrides, 1942: “From Midway to Guadalcanal: Two Months That Changed World War II.”
Southpacificwwiimuseum.com The South Pacific WWII Museum is located on Espiritu Santo Vanuatu, down the hill and a couple of miles from where the 25th EH put up their first hospital, and the museum can be visited in person or on their website.
*New to me at the time of this publication, 2026 – Dr. John Anderson works can be found at Southpacificwwiimuseum.com.: Great research, book, personal diary and video of his mother’s nursing experiences in the 25th , as well as a nice write up of the 25th. Go to the museum website.
warfarehistorynetwork Read the Patrick J Chaisson August 2022 article on details of the Coolidge: “The Sinking of the SS President Coolidge” and others. Much more information.
Pacificwrecks.com “Airfields, Major Roads and Bases” at Santo. Below the map: “Credit (The Lady and the President 1997)”. This nicely done diagram shows the location of the 25th Evacuation Hospital site with the other components of the evolving Navy base on Santo, circa 1942. Many other articles.
Associated Press lots of photos here and circulating.
Lots more, I'm sure. Raymond M Hamilton
